Herbs of Life: Health & Healing Using Western & Chinese Techniques Lesley Tierra, L.Ac., Herbalist

This comprehensive book written by the wife and partner of Michael Tierra, author of one of my original favorites “The Way of Herbs”, is well worn because it almost never fails to have information I need. Like Michael, Leslie works both in Eastern and Western methodologies.

Natural Healing With Herbs Humbart Santillo

An excellent reference book. Mr. Santillo has compiled an excellent reference guide for the professional as well as the layperson.

A Modern Herbal: Volumes 1 & 2 Mrs. M. Grieve

These books were originally published in 1931. They are filled with every conceivable western herb with lovely plates and detailed description.

Herbs & Things Jeanne Rose

This is another of my original and perennial favorites. Jeanne Rose always manages to make her books informative as well as very entertaining. She includes a lot of recipes for body care. Fun!

Back to Eden Jethro Kloss

This is the ‘bible’ of western herbalists everywhere! This very thick book contains so much helpful information, you will use it continuously.

The New Age Herbalist Richard Mabey

How to use herbs for healing, nutrition, body care, and relaxation. Also has a complete illustrated glossary of herbs and a guide to herb cultivation.

The Book of Herbal Wisdom Matthew Wood

This is one of the loveliest books written on herbal medicine. The author goes into great detail on each plant and obviously knows what he is talking about, and has a great love for each individual plant. This book is not only informative on a grand scale; it is also a great read!!

The Herbal for Mother and Child: Essential Home Remedies for a Healthy Pregnancy, a Trouble-Free Birth and Everyday Childhood Ailments (Paperback) by Anne McIntyre

Natural Child Care Maribeth Riggs

This is a complete guide to safe and effective herbal remedies and holistic health strategies for infants and children.

Herbal Healing for Women Rosemary Gladstar

This is a fabulous book! Rosemary’s formulas are easy to follow and very effective. This book is easy to navigate. From menstruation to menopause- she covers them all!

Herbal Remedies for Women Amanda McQuade Crawford

Amanda was my teacher’s teacher! This book provides a broad spectrum of solutions for women’s issues. She goes into great detail about each situation and provides choices for remedies.

Childbearing Year Susan Weed

A very interesting, helpful book on pregnancy and birth. I have referred to it often.

The Male Herbal James Green

There are currently very few (if any) books which address herbs specifically for male challenges. This book is very well written and explains the different areas which men may need plant medicine and how to apply it.

Gentle Healing for Baby and Child by Andrea Candee

This is a wonderful, comprehensive guide to utilizing herbs for babies and children!  I absolutely love this book and have learned new things from it.

A Kid’s Herb book by Lesley Tierra

This is a sweet book written for children about herbal remedies and lore.  If your children are at all interested in the magic and healing properties of plants, then this is the book for them!

Addiction Free Naturally Brigitte Mars

This book specifically addresses addictions- sugar, caffeine, food, tobacco, alcohol, and prescription drugs. Offering naturally gentle but effective way to ease cravings and nourish the body, as well as information on cleansing the body of accumulated toxins and finding healthy ways to combat depression, anxiety, fatigue, and stress, this book is full of wonderful and helpful advice.

Dandelion Medicine Brigitte Mars

Another great book by Brigitte Mars! The ubiquitous dandelion is a nutrient packed food and medicine that grows right in our backyards. This book intelligently covers all aspects of this super plant. Included are recipes for food, herbal remedies, and body care formulas.

Medicinal Plants of the Pacific West Michael Moore

I am a huge fan of Michael Moore’s plant identification books! Not only do you get a comprehensive guide on how to recognize the plants around you, you also get information on how to harvest and prepare the plants. Not only that, but he has a wonderful humor that makes the reading of these books a sheer pleasure.

The Herbal Medicine Maker’s Handbook James Green

What a fun book! James Green understands the magic of the plant world and this easy to use book is a boon to herbalists everywhere. He shows you how to harvest and utilize your herbs. From cough syrups to tinctures, he covers it all in this fabulous book.

Plant Spirit Medicine: The Healing Power of Plants Eliot Cowan

This is one of my very favorite books! Eliot Cowan works with the Spirit of the plants and this well written book takes you into that world. He shows us the spiritual side of the green world- an ancient and powerful world barely tapped by modern practitioners.

The Secret Teachings of Plants by Stephen Buhner

Reveals the use of direct perception in understanding Nature, medicinal plants, and the healing of human disease. All ancient and indigenous peoples insisted their knowledge of plant medicines came from the plants themselves and not through trial-and-error experimentation. Less well known is that many Western peoples made this same assertion.

Partner Earth by Pam Montgomery

Teaches us that we don’t need any special psychic skills to communicate with the beings of the natural world- we simply match frequencies with them, which means relaxing the mind and expanding the heart to receive more subtle signals.

The Spirit of Herbs: A Guide to the Herbal Tarot

by Michael Tierra

Created by the prolific herbalist, author, and teacher Michael Tierra, this set of cards is so much fun and very helpful in getting in touch with the spirit of the healing plants.

The Way of Herbs Michael Tierra

This was my first truly great herbal book. I bought my copy in 1980 and it’s so worn-out I really need to get a new one! Michael does an excellent job of combining the best of Eastern and Western herbology. Every time I use a formula from his book, I get results. Highly recommended!
